Why your shelf fell down
Almost always the anchor, almost never the screw.
Plasterboard without a stud holds almost nothing on a plain screw. It needs a toggle.
Plaster and lath is different again — old walls crumble around the hole.
Weight matters less than leverage. A shallow shelf holds far more than a deep one.
