Why the ants came back in three weeks
Because the spray killed the ones you saw, and nothing else.
A colony is mostly underground. Surface spray reaches the foragers, not the nest.
Bait works slower and better: the foragers carry it home and feed it to everyone.
Store-bought sprays can even split a colony, which is how one trail becomes three.
